God through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, heals and reconciles humanity and all creation to God. We believe our church is called to participate in the redemption of individuals, all humanity and all creation. Therefore ministries of environmental stewardship and environmental justice are significant in the mission of our congregation. For that reason we have asked and the session has acted to make us a part of the Environmental Justice Program Covenant Program within the National Council of Churches. The Environmental Justice ministry team has organized into four sub-committees. 1. Worship, 2. Learning and Teaching, 3. Congregational Life, 4. Individual and Family Lifestyle During the summer of 2006 the team planned the first Environmental Sunday in the park in cooperation with the Universalist Unitarian Fellowship. Our second Environmental Sunday in cooperation with Westminster Church of Wooster was July 15, 2007. The worship ministry team and the staff planned the worship service and the learning and teaching committee of the environmental justice ministry team planned the educational component. We also sponsored and Earthday worship service in May 2007. The learning and teaching team works with the Adult Education, Childrens Education and the Youth Education teams in developing Environmental Justice curricula. Suggestions for Individual Lifestyle changes and Congregational Lifestyle changes are the responsibility of teams 3 and 4. There recommendations will be informed by teams 1 and 2. Representative current activities include.1. An adult course on the Biblical Basis for Environmental Stewardship2. We participate in the Adopt-A-Highway volunteer program sponsored by ODOT3. We are now using biodegradable paper cups and washable coffee cups for church functions.4. We are selling cloth reusable grocery bags with the Presbyterian logo on one side and “Caring for God’s Creation, Wooster, Ohio on the other side. Links
